Find Your Threshold Point – Conconi’s method
The simplest way to find your threshold point:
HR Deflection point, Conconi’s method and breaking the world one hour record in cycling (51.151km, Francesco Moser; The first man beyond 50 km)
Sport physiology professor Francesco Conconi of the Ferrara university (Italy) used the existing relationship between HR and exercise intensity. He found that the relationship was no longer liner at higher intensity levels. At high intensity the line which is straight at first, shows a marked bend. In other words, exercise intensity can be increased but the athlete’s HR lags behind from a certain point. This point is the HR deflection point (HRdefl)
The relationship between HR and exercise intensity is not liner at higher intensity levels.
Any exercise with an intensity above the HR defl will result in an accumulation lactate.
You can see the difference between two levels of athletes:
How to do the test ?
lactate threshold test
conconi method:
Increase + 0.5 km/h per 200m.
Measure the HR at the end of each stage.
